Leaders and representatives from the Chinese enterprises and Chinese community, Members of Chinese delegation, Friends from medias,
Distinguished guests: Ladies and Gentlemen:
Good Morning. Welcome!
Thank you so much for joining us today at the Launching Ceremony of the China-Croatia Joint Police Patrol. At the outset, I wish to express my appreciation to Croatian Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Tourism, General Police Directorate and City of Zagreb for your kind support to this event, and also my special thanks to the local police administrations for your hospitality towards our Chinese police officers. At the same time, I want to thank my embassy staff and friends for their hard work to make today’s event possible.
This Joint Patrol by China and Croatian police officers takes place at a very important time when our bilateral relation has maintained strong momentum of development and entered one of the best periods in history based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit. In April this year, Mr. Li Keqiang, Premier of the People’s Republic of China paid an official visit to Croatia and attended the Eighth Summit of Heads of Government of China and Central and Eastern European Countries which turned out to be very successful and opened a new chapter for our bilateral relationship and our cooperation. Political mutual trust between China and Croatia has been strengthened and the pragmatic cooperation has deepened and expanded in multiple areas. Law enforcement cooperation is a vivid reflection of this fast growing ties. In May this year, Chinese Public Security Delegation led by State Councilor Mr. Zhao Kezhi visited Croatia and reached many consensuses on the cooperation of combating transnational organized crimes and enhancing law enforcement capacities between our two countries.
Today’s joint patrol also puts another addition to the fast growing China-Croatia tourism cooperation. Last year, the number of Chinese tourists traveled in Croatia exceeded 250,000, with 40% annual growth. On 10th April this year, Chinese Premier and Croatian Prime Minister attended the Opening Ceremony of the China-Croatia Culture and Tourism Year of 2019, which is bound to push the number of Chinese tourists to a new record. In order to enhance the Chinese tourists’ experience, from July to August 2018, six Chinese police officers patrolled in 3 places in Croatia for the first time, with fruitful results achieved. The number of Chinese police officers participating in the joint patrol this year is increased to eight, covering four locations. After the Launching Ceremony, they will go to Zagreb, Dubrovnic, Zadar and Plitvice National Park to start the joint patrol with their Croatian counterpart. It is worth mentioning that all the eight police officers come from Yangzhou city of China where Marco Polo stayed and served as an official for 3 years in the 13th Century.
Ladies and gentlemen,
National relations are based on the affection of peoples. Tourism, as a very important part of people to people exchanges plays a significant role in the construction of the “Belt and Road” between China and Croatia. The “Belt and Road” initiative, proposed by President Xi Jinping of China is a road not only about trade, infrastructure, financing, digital economy and policy coordination, but also it is about the connectivity of peoples among countries along the Belt and Road. It is another version of ancient silk road, it is about a road to connect Asia with Europe and Africa along the ancient Silk Road trade routes to seek common high quality development and prosperity. It is an open and inclusive platform for international cooperation and for building a community of shared future for mankind. I am very pleased to see that many tangible results have achieved or are going to be achieved in the construction of this initiative. With a large number of infrastructure projects undertaken by Chinese companies, such as Pelješki Bridge and Senj Wind Power, Croatia has become a model country to take part in the “Belt and Road” Initiative.
Croatia, the shining pearl at Adriatic sea, and “paradise place” on earth stated by the world-well known writer Bennet Shaw will attract more and more Chinese travelers for tourism, for study and for business. Our Croatian friends are most welcome to visit China. I believe today’s event will be a big promotion for them to come here to seek cooperation between our two countries. I am confident that Our Chinese police together with their Croatian colleagues with good images and excellent professionalism will become a beautiful scene in Croatia and will be loved by the people of both China and Croatia.
Finally, I wish the China-Croatia Joint Police Patrol this year a complete success!
Thank you all!
